Camping can be something you do in solitude, but it’s also a great way to get out and enjoy nature with a loved one. The trouble is if you’re there with your significant other, you’ll need to find a way to sleep that doesn’t separate the two of you on different sides of the camping tent that is also comfortable and elevates you off the ground. A queen size camping cot is a great option.
Queen size camping cots give you plenty of space and allow you to sleep comfortably without feeling crowded or uncomfortable. They raise you up from the ground like any other type of cot, but they don’t require you do anything to set them – other than extending the legs. You won’t need to inflate a cot like you would an air mattress.
Queen size cots are about the same size as a queen size mattress, which can be tough to find. Most cots are only about 60 inches wide, which is only enough space for one person, in most situations. Unfortunately, it’s tough to find cots that offer that additional 20 inches of space that make it the right size for two people to sleep comfortably while camping.
There are queen size airbeds, which can be positioned over two single size cots for a combination padded queen size cot.
Coleman Airbed Cot
Another option is to go with a pre-made cot/airbed combo. Our favorite queen size air cot is from Coleman and it measures just under 80 inches and is 59 inches long and sits about 22 inches off the ground. Coleman is a respected brand in the camping industry and it offers everything you need to be comfortable while camping.
The Airbed Cot is perfectly suited to camping trips and is light enough to carry a reasonable distance to set up camp. The air mattress is removable, too, so if you want to set up and break down quickly or you’re more comfortable on just a cot, it’s easy enough to make that happen. It can also be split into two-bed if you are camping with three or four people. Two would use the air mattress or cot on the ground, while the other one or two people would sleep on the cot.
This airbed cot comes with a pump that requires D batteries. It’s easy to assemble and inflate, so you’ll be sleeping on a comfortable bed in no time when you’re camping. The mattress is comfortable and the cot isn’t too bad, either, with or without the mattress. The mattress is built with a vertical coil system that mimics the comfort of a spring coil mattress and provides plenty of support. Honestly, it’s tough to find a more comfortable sleeping arrangement when you’re camping. It’s also stronger, so if you’re opting for a queen size cot for camping because you’re a bigger person, you won’t need to worry about the mattress under your weight.
This is a true queen size camping cot and retails for about $145.

You could add an inflatable mattress on top for more padding and comfort, but it’s not necessary since this is a fairly comfortable cot. It retails for about $150.

Outsunny Two Person Double Wide Folding Camping Cot
The Outsunny Two Person Double Wide Folding Camping Cot is not large enough to be considered queen size, but at 76 inches is more than enough room for two people. It’s, at last, a large double cot.
This cot offers elevated cot-style support that sits 15 inches off the ground. You can store supplies underneath and you won’t get hot or wet. It’s made from durable fabric and has a sturdy frame. It’s also fairly lightweight, so it’s easy enough to carry it to your campsite.
This is a great budget-friendly option that retails for about $85.

What to Consider in a Queen Size Camping Cot
Now that you know what’s available, there are a few important things you should consider before spending your hard-earned money on a camping cot.
First, it needs to be durable. You’re going to be sleeping on it, and just like you wouldn’t want a bed to collapse in the middle of the night, you don’t want a cot to do that either. It’s also important it be durable because it’s going to be somewhat exposed to the elements. You also want it to last a long time because most cots are a decent financial investment.
In addition to durability, you also want a cot that is comfortable. There are a few things to consider here when it comes to comfort. For starters, it should be elevated far enough off the ground to protect you from dampness and cold. Sleeping on a cot is great for camping because you aren’t right on the ground, but you need to be sure you’re far enough off the ground for it to make a difference.
It’s also important the cot feels good. It should be supportive and somewhat soft, or you should at least be able to add blankets, pads, or an air mattress. Also consider any ties, straps, or other things on the cot that is there for function but could interfere with your comfort. Something that doesn’t seem that intrusive can wreck a night of sleep if it’s poking into you.
Finally, make sure the material is not going to be uncomfortable on your skin. You’ll likely add sheets and blankets, but some material is scratchy enough you’ll feel it through even a couple of over-layers. Most cots are made from heavy-duty canvas, but make sure you feel the fabric and make sure it feels okay against your skin, especially if you tend to be sensitive.
